Ian, "perhaps" in the real world, people are busy. Do you honestly believe we are as busy as we think or do we exaggerate? I think the latter and as a cynic, I think people can do more but it's not easy and if it's not easy, and perhaps obvious, people don't do it. There is a lazy factor in cases. People do have the time to draw conclusions, they often lack the skill and the will. Nevertheless, I agree I need to tell them directly but I think doing it yourself will give you better conclusions as they will relate more specifically to your wants and needs. I often harken back to Jim Collins thoughts that there are few greats because so many people are "good enough." Why not always try for better? Great may be an end game, but better is a daily effort!
Hi David - I think you have to look at it from two perspectives.
From a personal perspective I'd absolutely agree. Working it yourself will definitely give you better conclusions and you should try for better.
But if you think about communicating with others who you want to take action, you can't rely on them being as proactive as you. Maybe a small percentage will be (the "few greats" Collins alludes to). But most won't. And from your perspective you want as many people as possible taking action so you have to make it as easy as possible for them.
